Since birth, this red panda cub has been loved by many tourists, and is currently developing well. Shanghai Wild Animal Park said they still need to study and diligently research the nutritional supply and care techniques for young cubs at different stages, and do their best to make the cub healthy and strong.
Three candidate names have different meanings.
Early that morning, the animal keepers had already set up the venue to organize a ‘birthday party’ for the cub, and specially prepared a unique birthday cake. At 11 am, the cake arrived, and ‘Five-Finger’ mother hugged ‘Cub-’ in one hand and quickly picked up the ‘cake’ and stuffed it into her mouth. Perhaps she was too excited about the ‘cake’ and forgot that her child was the main character today, but ‘Five-Finger’ still shared the birthday cake with her child.

The keepers said they wanted to use the cub’s birthday to name the cub. Currently, three candidate names have emerged, namely An An, Yuan Yuan, and Grape, which represent different meanings. The naming period for the cub will last for one week.
‘An An’ refers to the red panda cub’s birthday, which is different from 2020, and it is hoped that the cub will be safe and happy in the park, and grow up healthily and happily. ‘Yuan Yuan’ refers to the cub’s mother’s name ‘Five-Finger’, hoping that the cub will have twice as much happiness and well-being in the park. ‘Grape’ refers to the cub’s favorite grape, and ‘Grape’ has bunches of grapes, symbolizing ‘prosperous children’, hoping that the cub will be happy and grow up in the park, and have many descendants in the future.

The cub loves to eat grapes and can now climb shelves independently.
Since birth, this red panda cub has been loved by many tourists, and its ‘fur-blowing’ image has long been deeply ingrained in people’s minds. According to the keepers, the birth of this red panda cub is a rare event in Shanghai Wild Animal Park’s history, and it is not many places in China that can successfully breed small cubs.

The birth of the red panda cub was not smooth. ‘Five-Finger’ is the cub’s mother, who is 16 years old this year; ‘God Turtle’ is the cub’s father, who is 19 years old. In 2017, the keepers acted as matchmakers, and after getting to know each other and communicating, they entered a ‘romantic relationship’. In November 25, 2018, ‘Five-Finger’ successfully completed the pregnancy check. After ‘Five-Finger’ gave birth to the cub, the cub’s nursing posture was incorrect, and she assisted her, correcting ‘Five-Finger’’s nursing way, so that the cub could naturally suckle.
The cub spent the first three months of its life with its mother in the nursery. At three months old, the cub and its mother officially met the public. Eight months later, when the keepers were feeding the mother fruit, they found that the cub was interested in the fruit and started to lick and bite, and it especially loved grapes.
At the same time, the cub’s activity ability has also increased greatly, from climbing on its mother’s body to pulling its mother’s arm to crawl or walk on the ground, and now it can independently climb shelves, but as soon as it hears someone’s footsteps approaching, it will still call for its mother to hug it.
