Amazing! Xiazhi Welcomes Hundreds of Large White Storks and Other Migratory Birds

It's currently the peak migration season for migratory birds. Since February 22nd, the Huanggu Dao National Forest Park in Huangzhou County has welcomed various migratory birds including Bonnetheads, Grey-faced Buzzards and over 200 national level protected White Storks.
Huanggu Dao ancient Sycamore Grove in Huangzhou County is currently the only global agricultural cultural heritage site in Shandong Province, with over 6000 acres of ancient Sycamore trees and more than 20,000 trees over 100 years old. Huanggu Dao National Forest Park has a forest cover rate of 61.8% and has become a transit and breeding ground for various rare birds.


According to Kong Wenli, station manager of the Conservation Station of the Forestry Development Center of Huangzhou County, this is the largest White Stork population observed in Huangzhou County since record-keeping began. Observation sites are located at Ping'an Lake and Huijin Lake Reservoir in Huangzhou County's Huanggu Dao National Forest Park, as well as the Conservation Area of Huijin Lake Reservoir in Huangzhou County's Jiu Longkou National Wetland Park. Additionally, 10 Grey-faced Buzzards (Grey Autumn Sandpipers) were observed, marking the first time this species has been observed in Dezhou.
