Spring blossoms, the golden leopard who frequently appeared in the Jiyuan Taihang Mountains multiple times, has appeared again! On March 9th, the Jiyuan Eco-City Integration Demonstration Zone Forest Industry Bureau issued a statement to the outside world about the biodiversity monitoring results of the Taihangshan National Nature Reserve, attracting much attention.

According to the release, from the second half of 2019 to February 2020, the Jiyuan Taihangshan National Nature Reserve used infrared cameras to capture valuable imaging data of the National Level Key Protected Animal – the Chinese Leopard, 42 times. The Jiyuan Taihangshan Leopard has been identified with no less than 6 individuals through infrared cameras, including the 'couple leopard' and 'mother-cub leopard', indicating a reasonable reproductive structure of the Chinese Leopard population.

In addition, the infrared cameras also recorded other key protected animals, including the National Level Protected Animal Linshui, the Secondary Protected Animal Yellow-throated Ermine, Sparrowhawk, Red-bellied Cock, Chickadee, Black-crowned Sparrowhawk, etc.

The Jiyuan Forest Industry Bureau said that the appearance of the Chinese Leopard in multiple zones of the Taihang Mountains represents a close exchange between the Chinese Leopard population in Jiyuan and the Chinese Leopard population in other areas of the Taihang Mountains, and is in a state of expansion, which is of great significance to the health and recovery of the Taihangshan Chinese Leopard population. It also proves that with the continuous strengthening of ecological protection and the implementation of the Henan South Taihangshan Water-Forest-Land-Lake-Grass Ecological Protection and Restoration Project, the ecological environment of Jiyuan Taihangshan is developing stably and healthily.

Next, Jiyuan will intensify wildlife control measures, completely prohibit the trade of wildlife, crack down on illegal hunting and capture of wildlife, strictly implement wildlife epidemic and disease monitoring, strengthen wild patrol, and strengthen habitat protection, allowing the beautiful Chinese Leopard, which only exists in China, to thrive and prosper in the Taihang Mountains.
