Fujian's 'Bird-Loving Week' Has Arrived! 17 Heron Species of 60 Worldwide Found in Xiamen
From March 25th to 31st is the 38th 'Bird Watching Week' in Fujian Province. Do you know that there are over 60 species of herons worldwide, with 20 of them distributed in China (excluding vagrant species), and 17 species of herons are distributed in Xiamen.

National Grade II Protected Species Yellow-billed Egret
The theme of this year's Bird Watching Week is: ‘Caring for Birds Together, Building a Beautiful Home’. According to the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Natural Resources and Planning, there are 5 species of egrets in China, and all of them are distributed in Xiamen. They are White Egret, Middle White Egret, Large White Egret, Yellow-billed Egret and Rock Egret.
According to the statistics compiled by the Xiamen Bird Watching Association as of the end of February 2019, the total number of wild birds recorded in Xiamen is 22 orders and 74 families, 381 species, of which 1 species is listed as a Grade I National Protected Animal (Ghost Egret) and 47 species are listed as Grade II National Protected Animals.
Over the years, Xiamen has made unremitting efforts to protect its good friends, and has successively established the Xiamen Rare Marine Species National Nature Reserve and the Xiamen Wuyuan Bay Olive-throated Laughing Thrush Nature Reserve, providing them with the best habitat.
