News from the Beijing Daily (reporter Ye Xiaoyan). As ice and snow melt, and everything comes back to life, Miyun Reservoir welcomes migratory birds. Reporters learned from Miyun Reservoir Management Office that thousands of migratory birds, including black-necked gulls, little gulls, white egrets, black herons and cormorants, have successively arrived from southern regions, making Miyun Reservoir, this 'big water basin,' a 'bird paradise.'
In Miyun Reservoir, green-headed ducks and autumn shovel ducks play and forage in the reeds, haughty white egrets stand on branches with one leg, only spreading their wings to dive for food when hunting, elegant black-necked gulls swim in groups on the shimmering water surface. The national first-class protected species autumn shovel duck has also appeared, playing in the reservoir area.
In recent years, the Miyun Reservoir Management Office has taken a series of effective measures to strengthen water quality monitoring, conduct joint law enforcement, severely crack down on all types of water-related illegal behaviors, and continuously increase the intensity of ecological protection. The obvious improvement of the ecological environment is attracting more rare birds to reside here.
