After visiting Japan three times, a local friend finally brought me to this hidden treasure!
Welcome to Swenty's Journey World, bringing you a different perspective on beautiful scenery.
When people talk about Tokyo's surroundings, Kamakura is often the first thing that comes to mind. However, Enoshima (also known as Ejishima) is another interesting place near Tokyo. This healing island juts out into the Shonan coast and the Sagami Bay. Enoshima is the name of the entire island. Located in the Tateishi area (formerly Tateishi-machi), it's a famous scenic spot representing Shonan, and has been a tourist destination for centuries.

If you're visiting Tokyo and don't want to follow the usual Kamakura route, why not visit Enoshima? You can easily explore it in half a day. Once you arrive, you'll find a small path leading up the mountain, with shops and restaurants lining both sides.

They say the best photo angles are on the top of the mountain, and Enoshima is no exception. However, Enoshima has elevators (making it perfect for families and the elderly). While climbing the mountain is good exercise, most people still buy elevator tickets. We highly recommend purchasing the elevator and observation lighthouse combo ticket, which costs 750 yen for adults. The elevator has three sections, and you can only go up; there's no going down.
At the end of each elevator section, you'll find several shrines and temples to explore, or seaside cafes and restaurants for relaxation;

Continue until you reach Enoshima's Observation Lighthouse. Take the elevator to the top for a 360-degree view of the surrounding Enoshima scenery. Although the lighthouse isn't very tall or large, the sea view is still excellent. The fresh sea breeze is incredibly refreshing and relaxing ~

Don't miss the original location of 'Hai-gai Nikki' (Sea Street Diary) – Wasoko Shokudo, which you can find by following the Google Maps route. You'll often see fans taking photos and selfies. If you have plenty of time, you can also enjoy a serving of grilled eel rice – a delicious treat!
