Impressions of the Shaoxing Border, Su Province Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery
Shaoxing Border, Su Province Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery belongs to a national key protected monument unit, a national patriotic education base, and one of China's most worthwhile destinations among the Chinese Red Revolution holy lands.

The cemetery began planning in 1958 and was completed in 1962 after four years. It covers an area of more than 150 acres. It is located on a red sandstone ridge in the eight peaks of Hufeng County, Enshi, Hubei Province, 1.5 kilometers from Hufeng County, and is named ‘Full Mountain Red’ due to the profusion of blooming azaleas (Du Junhua). In 1978, a large-scale reconstruction was carried out. In December 1988, it was formally named the Shaoxing Border, Su Province Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery.
A bronze elephant written by General He Long and inscribed by Liao Hansheng with ten vigorous characters saying ‘Inherit the spirit of martyrs, revitalize Shaoxing and Enshi’ stands before the cemetery. From both sides of the archway, stone steps lead upwards for 18.4 meters to the ‘Shaoxing Border, Su Province Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Monument,’ which appears magnificent and tall. The 200 square meter monument base features a series of depictions illustrating the struggle of the Shaoxing and Enshi regions.

Following the monument, you ascend by a concrete stone staircase through the forest, leading to the main burial group at the summit of the mountain. Here, the remains of those who died in the Land Revolution War in the Shaoxing Border, Su Province Revolutionary Area are buried: early outstanding military leaders of the Red Army, one of the founders of the Shaoxing and Enshi Red Army and revolutionary base, and the commander of the Red 9th Division, Duan Dexiang (considered the first revolutionary martyr in New China and one of the 33 military strategists in China), early outstanding military leaders of the Red Army and one of the founders of the Shaoxing and Enshi Red Army and revolutionary base, the chief of staff of the Red 9th Division, Wang Bingan, and He Ying (the sister of General He Long) are buried here – famous martyrs.
