Largest Open-Pit Mining Scenic Area in Northern China
Tangshan Nanhu Park was built by the Tangshan Municipal Government utilizing a coal mining subsidence area formed over 130 years of excavation, becoming a 5A horticultural exhibition scenic area. It welcomed visitors from 55 countries and regions at the 2016 Tangshan World Horticultural Expo. The Hebei East Large Limestone Open-Pit Mine Restoration and Treatment Planning Area is also expected to become a wonder of Tangshan and the world in the near future.
Tangshan Hebei East Limestone Raw Material Open-Pit Base is located in Wangjiayinkeng Village, Fuyun District, Tangshan, west of Jiazhuang Village (i.e., Maotoushan, Ma Tieshan, and Cishishan). It is located: adjacent to the Hebei Anti-Japanese Yangjiaopu Memorial Hall to the west, north of the remnant of the Yan Mountain – the Hebei Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Base of Jiedong according to the location, east of Lao Zhaosuo’s former residence, and bordering the Hebei Plain Guerrilla Zone to the south, which was a major guerrilla base during the Anti-Japanese War in Hebei.
After more than 30 years of excavation, it has reached its end and formed a tailings field of more than 400,000 square meters of slope waste, which has not only ecological damage, but also many safety hazards. In order to accelerate the environmental restoration, improve the regional ecological environment early, according to the preliminary plan for the construction of Maotoushan Park, Jinsu Hebei Cement Group will invest 20+ billion yuan in 3-5 years to restore the 4.8 square kilometers of tailings area in the Maotoushan area, using lawns, flowerbeds, hedges, evergreen trees, deciduous trees and shrubs to create a pleasant spatial level, creating Hebei Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Base and tourism together with open-pit scenic spots.
