Taizhou (tāi zhōu), a county-level city under the administration of Zhejiang Province, is located in the central coastal area of Zhejiang Province, east of the East China Sea, north of Shaoxing and Ningbo, south of Wenzhou, and west of Jinhua and Lishui. Taizhou is a constituent part of the Ningbo Metropolitan Area, with Ningbo as the leader and Taizhou as an important component. Taizhou tourism is characterized by 'Buddha, Mountain, Sea, City, Cave' with distinctive features, boasting national key scenic and historic cultural cities like Tian Tai Mountain, Longyu (Cave Houses) and national key historical and cultural cities like Linhai.
Taizhou has a long history, with human settlements dating back 5000 years. The terrain of the area slopes eastward, with the Wanzhang Mountain forming a natural barrier to the south, and the Cangshan and Laishan Mountains stretching westward, mainly consisting of peaks such as the 1382.4-meter-high Mi peak in Cangshan Mountain, which is the highest peak in Eastern Zhejiang.
Taizhou's eastern coastal shoreline stretches for 651 kilometers, accounting for nearly one-third of Zhejiang Province's coastline; it has 12 island groups and 691 islands, primarily including the Taizhou Islands and the Dongzi Islands. The largest island, Yutian Island, is connected to the mainland, and the surrounding sea area has an area of 80,000 square kilometers, with a total land area of 9411 square kilometers. With mountains, plains and hills intermingling, it forms the 'seven mountains and one water, two divides fields' pattern.
Scenic and Historic Sites
Xian Jian Ju (Heavenly Residence)
Xian Jian Ju is one of the key scenic and historic sites in Jiujiang, with a total area of 15.8 square kilometers. It has been developed to one-fourth, and was once named 'the most beloved scenic spot for tourists' . It is now designated as 'Writer's Creation Base', integrating 'strange, dangerous, clear, and secluded' features, gathering 'peaks, cliffs, waterfalls, and forests' into one place, forming a landscape of peaks, cliffs, streams, and waterfalls. It is characterized by a typical limestone rock formation, with its landscape rich and concentrated, with peaks, cliffs, and rock heights often exceeding 100 meters. The rock fall is everywhere, and the stream and waterfall are always flowing, creating a deep and secluded atmosphere. There are 80+ attractions such as Ying Ke Shan (Welcoming Mountain God), General Rock, Sleeping Beauty, Elephant-Nose Waterfall, and Eleven-Leak Flying Waterfall. Xian Jian Ju's attraction lies in that each mountain, each water, each cliff, each cave, each stone, each peak has its own unique form, is unusual, surprising, unpredictable, and remarkable. Starting from the county seat, you can travel west to the magnificent Laishan Mountain or south to the Cangshan Mountain, both of which stretch continuously like waves, with only the white tower at the foot of the south-facing Bai Tower being particularly striking, with its peaks and cliffs separated by heights of over 100 meters, and rocks falling everywhere creating a picturesque scene. The stream and waterfall are constantly flowing, and the atmosphere is deep and secluded.
Tian Tai Mountain Scenic Area
Tian Tai Mountain Scenic Area, known as 'the origin of Buddhist and Taoist doctrines', is China's first sect of Tian Tai Buddhism. It is the birthplace of the Tian Tai sect and is also the ancestral temple of Taoism's Southern Sect. Key attractions include Gu Qing Temple, Shi Liang (Stone Slab), Chi Cheng Shan (Red Cliff Mountain), Han Shan Lake (Cold Mountain Lake), Hua Ding Feng (Hua Ding Peak). Gu Qing Temple is a national key historical and cultural site, and Shi Liang Waterfall is one of Zhejiang Province's Top 10 Scenic Sites. In 1988, it was approved by the State Council as a national key scenic and historic site, and in 1992, it was listed as one of Zhejiang Province's 'Top 10 Tourist Destinations'. In 2000, Tian Tai Mountain was designated as the first-class tourist area by the National Tourism Administration, with a total area of 187.1 square kilometers, with abundant tourism resources, and has been described as 'Big Eight Scenery, Small Eight Scenery, and Thirty Famous Scenery'.
Tian Tai Mountain combines the beauty of all mountains, its greatest characteristic is its ancient, secluded, blue, and extraordinary features. Tian Tai Mountain not only has magnificent and beautiful natural scenery, but also has deep and profound cultural heritage, and its location conditions are also quite superior for tourism. To the east is the 'Residence of Chiang Kai-shek' whichmejor is the Jiujiang Scenic and Historic Site, and to the south is the Cangshan Mountain.
Taizhou Marine World
Located on the northwest side of People's Square, it is a large aquarium mainly featuring marine life exhibitions. Taizhou Marine World has the tallest in China and the largest in Zhejiang Province. Taizhou Marine World houses the Tropical Rainforest Hall, the Coral Reef Fish Hall, the Marine Style Hall, the Marine Beast Performance Hall, the Marine Carnival, and the Marine Science Classroom, etc. Taizhou Marine World fully leverages the experience of large marine museums at home and abroad, and creatively applies many new ideas, bringing together a variety of marine organisms, super-large displays, and realistic recreations of the colorful and vibrant underwater world. It also launched the Mermaid, Human-Shark Simultaneous Diving, Seal Performance, Underwater Ballet, etc., and the Marine Carnival, Marine Gift Center, Marine Theme Restaurant, Marine Science Classroom, and Underwater Laboratory.
Wenling Fangshan Scenic Area
Fangshan has four-sided cliffs, with a flat expanse at the summit, covering an area of more than 700 acres, with a wide view, like an open platform in the sky, with a panoramic view of mountains and rivers. On the summit, flowers bloom in all four seasons, and the entire Fangshan peak looks like a giant open-air garden. Someone wrote on the Fangshan peak as follows: 'Looking far away, the vastness of the universe, overlooking the mountains and rivers, a sense of grandeur and magnificence. According to the geological data, Fangshan is a typical volcanic rock formation with a plateau with a layer of obsidian volcanic rock covering a thickness of about 50 meters, with a characteristic of 'flat top, steep sides, gentle foot', which is similar to the red sandstone landscape, also has the characteristic of 'top flat, sides steep, foot gentle'. Fangshan is one of the few volcanic geological heritage sites in China with a large-scale, open plateau and abundant geological landscape (including waterfalls and streams), it is a rare geological park in China's volcanic rock scenic areas.
