Shennongyuan
Shennongyuan Scenic and Historic Area is located in Dayuan Town, Wanxian County, Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province. It is the eighth batch of National-level Scenic and Historic Areas, National AAAA-level Scenic Area, and National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit. Shennongyuan Scenic and Historic Area is characterized by the world's earliest rice cultivation culture origin and magnificent karst cave landscape, with water culture as its connotation, and its main functions are sightseeing and tourism, scientific research, leisure and vacation, and cultural science popularization. Currently, Shennongyuan Scenic and Historic Area has opened the Shenlong Palace Scenic Area and Xianren Cave Scenic Area.
Jiangxi Province Shennongyuan Scenic and Historic Area has convenient transportation and superior geographical location. It is connected with Mount Sanqing to the east, with Longhu Mountain and Quyong Mountain to the south, with the Poyang Lake to the west, and connected with Jieting and Dezhang highways and Wanxian Highway. The scenic area is 1.5 hours' drive from Tengshan Railway Station (East) and Yiyang Railway Station and 1.5 hours' drive from Nanchang Railway Station. Air routes include 1.5 hours' drive from Nanchang Changbei Airport, 1.5 hours' drive from Shangrao Sanqing Airport, and 1 hour's drive from Jieting Airport.
Shennongyuan Scenic and Historic Area's Xianren Cave and Diaotong Ring Scenic Area discovered the earliest known cultivated rice phytolithic specimens, which pushed the history of human rice cultivation back to 12000-14000 years ago, and discovered the earliest pottery (more than 10000 years old) in the world, unearthed a large number of bone artifacts, stone artifacts, and shellfish artifacts, which is the origin of the rice cultivation culture in China. Currently, the Wanxian Xianren Cave-Diaotong Ring Ruins have been written into the ‘China History’ textbook of Grade 7, Class 1 of the seventh grade of the People’s Education Publishing House, for students to learn.
Shennongyuan Scenic and Historic Area's ‘Shenlong Palace’ Scenic Area is a karst cave landscape zone with extremely high geological value and strong visual appeal. The cave contains many varieties of stalactites, which are diverse and exquisite, with pure texture, jade-like color, and abundant scenery, possessing characteristics such as new, strange, spiritual, splendid, mysterious, and dangerous. The underground river in the cave is known as ‘the most beautiful underground river in China’.
In recent years, Shennongyuan Scenic and Historic Area has continuously improved the hardware and software construction, and built a new tourist center that can accommodate nearly 1000 people in the Shenlong Palace Scenic Area. In Xianren Cave scenic area, they built a geological museum suitable for children’s tours and study tours. In terms of software, Shennongyuan introduced an advanced smart ticketing system and panoramic VR touring system, fully satisfying the needs of self-driving tourists for online booking and ticket pickup ‘one-card’ entry. In terms of resource protection, the scenic area has strengthened the protection of forest vegetation, landform, basic farmland, and scenic environment. In terms of brand construction, in August 2000, it was approved as a provincial-level scenic and historic area by the People’s Government of Jiangxi Province. The Wanxian Xianren Cave-Diaotong Ring Ruins were approved as the fifth batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council in June 2001. It was listed as a provincial-level geological park by the Jiangxi Provincial Department of Land and Resources in November 19, 2007. It was approved as a national-level scenic and historic area by the State Council in October 2012. It was awarded as AAAA-level tourist area in December 31, 2014. In May 2019, it was rated as Shangrao City Study and Education Base.
Next, Shennongyuan Scenic and Historic Area will continue to increase marketing and promotion efforts, open up various regional visitor channels, and fully utilize popular online platforms such as Douyin short videos to promote the brand of the scenic area. The scenic area will continue to dig deep into its cultural connotation, enrich tourism formats, and create more experiential projects, effectively enhancing the attractiveness and competitiveness of Shennongyuan Scenic and Historic Area. Finally, Shennongyuan Scenic Area will continue to consolidate management, improve service levels, and further increase visitor satisfaction, striving to create a high-service, high-experience tourist destination.
