There's a 'Korean Garden' in Guangzhou's Ordinary Parks – What's the Story Behind It?

Which Chinese city is most popular with Koreans? Northern friends often answer Dalian and Qingdao, but this city where many Koreans reside – Guangdong – has more Korean residents, and a street called 'Korean Street' has been opened here, specializing in various Korean foods and daily necessities. Many Koreans live nearby and frequently shop there.

This city is Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province, which is more than 2000 kilometers away from Seoul and the neighboring Gyeonggi-do.
Besides 'Korean Street' in Guangzhou, there is also a 'Korean Garden' located in Yuexi Park, accessible directly via Metro Line 2.

The 'Korean Garden' in Yuexi Park is now known as 'Gyeonggi-do Garden', built along the hillside.
Why would there be a Korean-style classical garden in Guangzhou's parks?
Originally, the Guangdong Province and Gyeonggi-do in Korea held an exchange of building gardens. Guangdong built a garden in Gyeonggi-do, and the Koreans built the 'Gyeonggi-do Garden' in Yuexi Park.
The 'Gyeonggi-do Garden' is based on the architectural style of Korean classical buildings from six hundred years ago, combined with the hillside topography and natural scenery of Yuexi Park.

The garden is characterized by lush greenery both inside and outside, with various plants that remain green year-round, adding vitality to the entire garden.

This classical garden adopts a color scheme of gray and beige, reflecting the restrained, introverted, and elegant qualities of ancient Koreans.

The bamboo groves inside and outside the garden are particularly effective in creating a serene atmosphere, further enhancing the garden's high-quality feel.
Over the past twenty years, Korean dramas have swept across East Asia, and some young people love to eat Korean dramas' popular foods and admire the scenery in Korea. The 'Korean Garden' in Yuexi Park, which is very similar to the courtyards in Korean dramas, attracts many K-drama fans to come and travel and take photos. It's particularly easy to take 'cool' traditional Chinese-style photos there.
Although Korean architecture differs somewhat from Chinese architecture, many details are influenced by Chinese architecture. You can find traces of it in the 'Gyeonggi-do Garden'.
