On the West Lake, the most famous Longjing tea village, today (March 17th) at 6:45, 26 large buses set off from the village.


Many villagers stood by the roadside, waving excitedly at the buses. The buses were full of empty seats, bringing back the villagers' most needed—tea pickers.
The 26 large buses, after comprehensive disinfection and equipped with, departed from Longjing Village to provinces within Zhejiang and, transporting tea pickers and via dedicated vehicles.
This is the first step in the West Lake Scenic Area’s comprehensive guarantee of Longjing tea’s resumption of production, and the ‘assembly number’ for the comprehensive opening of Longjing tea harvesting.

Longjing Village Party Secretary Qian Weiguo said that the entire Longjing Village needs 1593 tea pickers and, of which around 1300 will be picked up by the village’s unified dispatch of vehicles. Another 200 people are too dispersed, and the tea farmers will go to pick them up themselves.
These 1300 people are mainly concentrated in Anhui, Jiangxi, and . Longjing Village has proactively contacted the tea pickers, and everyone has gathered in advance at the county-level collection points, and dedicated vehicles will pick them up one by one, measuring body temperature and checking health codes, and those without health codes need to present proof from local government.
Once on the dedicated vehicles, everyone is separated, with one person per two seats, equivalent to a 50-seat bus, only 25 people can be accommodated.



Starting around 3:30 PM, the 26 large buses returned to Longjing Village successively. Today, a total of 546 tea pickers and will be brought back. From the first boarding, they didn’t stop, and food was prepared in the vehicle, so the service area didn’t stop until they disembarked at Longjing Village, point-to-point and direct.


Today is the first batch of Longjing Village picking tea pickers and, totaling 546 people; in a few days, when tea harvesting becomes more intensive, there will be another pickup on March 22nd, with an estimated 900 people to be transported.

In Longjing Village, 18 container-style simple residences have been built, specially prepared for the visiting tea pickers. According to the village’s statistics, there are 1593 tea pickers, and it is estimated that 1000 villagers can accommodate them, and the remaining 500+ people will be accommodated by renting guesthouses and container-style simple residences.
To maximize the safety of the tea, the village will strictly screen the health status of this group of outsiders, requiring green codes and normal body temperature before entering Hangzhou and entering the village. Before picking tea, Longjing Village will make everyone wear masks, measure body temperature, and disinfect, and implement various measures.
It is reported that in addition to Longjing Village, tea villages such as Wengjia Mountain Village, Yangmei Ridge Village, Mojiang Village, Meijiawu Village, Shuangfeng Village in the West Lake Subdistrict, have also recently started organized work of chartering tea pickers. It is estimated that currently more than 6300 tea pickers and will be transported to the tea villages via point-to-point dedicated vehicle.

Currently, the Longjing 43 varieties of Longjing tea have gradually entered the harvesting period, with a total harvesting area of about 20%. In terms of tea pickers, after the joint efforts of tea farmers, villages, governments, and social communities, the shortage of tea pickers has been basically solved. In the near future, the weather is sunny and without rain, with suitable temperatures, which is very conducive to the growth, harvesting, and processing of Longjing tea, and under this condition, the tea quality will be better.
