There are two identical Kumtag deserts in Western China with the same name and surname
One is located at the junction of Gansu Province West and Xinjiang Southeast, abbreviated as Ganshin Kumtag Desert. It is approximately 22,000 square kilometers in area, roughly north of Aqiqke Valley - Dunhuang Ya Dan National Geological Park, south of Alkin Mountains, west of Lop Nur Da Ear, east of Dunhuang Singing Sand Mountain and Annan Dam National Nature Reserve.
The other is located on the eastern edge of the Turpan Basin in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, south of, and is officially known as '' ( Kumtag Desert Scenic and Historic Area).
Kumtag Desert Scenic and Historic Area is one of the few deserts in the world that comes into contact with cities at zero distance.
Kumtag Desert is part of the Taklamakan Desert. 'Kumtag' in Uyghur means 'sand mountain'.
Standing south of, you can see the vast and majestic desert in gold, with magnificent scenery and endless beauty, and has been together with oases for thousands of years, quietly gazing at each other, like loyal lovers, inspiring endless imagination.
Kumtag Desert has been developed into a scenic area that integrates scientific research, investigation, exploration, sand desert sports, sand therapy health care, and desert tourism. Kumtag Desert is the only desert in the world connected to a city, a microcosm of the world's sand reclamation history of 'green no retreat, sand no advance,' and is a museum showcasing typical landscapes from major deserts around the world. It also represents the last sacred site of the lost Kingdom of Krori.
