Illuminating BiosphereCritically Endangered Blue-breasted Ruddy Duck Spotted in BaoshanOn February 22nd, staff at the Qinghua Hai National Wetland Park Management Center in Baoshan, Yunnan Province, detected a male Blue-breasted Ruddy Duck while patrolling East Lake of Qinghua Hai. The Blue-breasted Ruddy Duck, listed as Critically Endangered (CR) by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), has a global population of only about 1,000 individuals. Blue-breasted Ruddy Ducks are an important species in the East Asia-Australia migratory route, primarily breeding in the Russian Far East and China's east coast, and wintering in southern China, Myanmar, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, and Japan.
