Rare in China! National Level Protected Bird, the Jade Belt White-bellied Sea Eagle, Spotted in Qinghua Sea
On March 14th, a Yellow-eyed Black Terrier appeared in the Baishan Qinghua Sea National Wetland Park. The Yellow-eyed Black Terrier is a national level key protected wild animal, and is listed as a critically endangered species by the World Conservation Union (IUCN). It is very rare in China. This is the first record of the Yellow-eyed Black Terrier for Baishan.

Yellow-eyed Black Terriers are large raptors, with a total length of about 0.9 meters, and a wingspan of up to 2 meters when flying in the air. They feed on fish and waterfowl in lakes, and on rodents such as prairie dogs and rabbits in grasslands and deserts.

Historically, the Yellow-eyed Black Terrier has a very wide distribution globally, but its population has declined sharply since the 1960s, and it has been listed as a globally endangered species by the World Conservation Union (IUCN) (Collar et al., 2017). According to the 2018 population survey, the global number is 1000-2499, and this number may be lower now.
