Extremely Rare! Hunchun Captures First-Ever Real Footage of a National Level I Protected Animal – Musk Deer
Recently, photographer Gu Bao from Hunchun captured valuable musk deer footage in Yangbao Township. Musk deer are a national Level I protected animal. According to industry insiders, musk deer are very rare, and it is even more difficult to capture actual footage.

Hunchun Northeast Tiger and Leopard National Park Hunchun Bureau has consistently increased its efforts in publicity, patrol, afforestation, and anti-predation, implementing grid management to effectively protect the region's wildlife. Hunchun has previously discovered traces of wild Northeast tigers and sika deer, and capturing original musk footage was the first time.

Musk deer, also known as musk deer or sika deer, are a rare species. Musk deer have short forelimbs and long hind limbs, small hooves and large ears. Both males and females lack antlers, and males have well-developed tusks. China has abundant musk resources, including forest musk, horse musk, original musk, black musk, and Himalayan musk, with original musk and horse musk being larger and having light brown spots. Only original musk has white spots all over its body. Musk deer live in forests and are most active at dawn or dusk. They have well-developed hearing and sense of smell. The secretion formed after drying in the scent glands of male musk deer is musk, a very precious medicinal material and spice.
