Every year in mid-October to late November, dandan geese from Siberia will gradually migrate to the Luojaqiongqu River, 100 kilometers west of Ya'erge County, Aba Prefecture, Sichuan Province. Ya'erge County is renowned for its 'China's most beautiful high-altitude wetland grasslands' and is an important wintering and resting place for migratory birds. Due to the geothermal river water in Luojaqiongqu River, which never freezes, it provides a good environment for dandan geese to winter as a national second-level protected animal.
It is reported that dandan geese are national second-level protected animals, one of the highest-flying birds in the world, capable of flying over the Roof of the World – Mount Everest, with a maximum flight height of over 9000 meters. Wild geese generally do not approach humans, but these geese flying to Ya'erge do not fear photographers even when close. By mid-March, these beautiful dandan geese will fly back to Siberia to lay eggs and reproduce.
