Ancient City of Changzhi Welcomes Peak Migration Season for Migratory Birds

In recent days, the ancient city of Changzhi has entered the peak season for migratory birds, with migratory birds such as Zhangze Lake, Baofeng Lake, and Jingu Lake at large habitats 'taking off' and 'landing' busy, with thousands of swans, dabbling ducks, white herons, and black storks, various wild ducks playing and flying in search of food, a spectacular scene.
As of early March, according to Changzhi Daily reporters and a large number of bird photography enthusiasts' long-term observations and recordings, it has been monitored that the number of birds is close to one million. This is a significant increase compared to the same period last year, and this year there are also many new bird species, the Changzhi National Wetland Park first observed the rare species of Eurasian Wigeon and Ruddy Duck, and Xiangyuan County Sanzhang Wetland Park first discovered the Oriental White Stork, a national first-class protected animal.
Changzhi City's good ecological environment and abundant aquatic and terrestrial plants provide a comfortable habitat and sufficient food sources for wild birds. Changzhi City has carried out wetland environmental restoration and management in recent years, and the self-recovery ability of wetland environment and animal plants in Changzhi City is constantly increasing, thus attracting thousands of precious wild birds every year to reside.

As winter turns to spring, on the surface of Zhangze Lake, migratory birds such as swans, geese, and cormorants gather and reside and forage. At the same time, Jingu Lake, Baofeng Lake, Xiangyuan Donghu, and Sanzhang Wetland also welcomed flocks of migratory bird tourists.

It is the peak season for migratory birds' migration in spring, and the migratory birds in the Changzhi area mainly have two migration routes, one is along the Qin River direction into Changzhi Qin Yuan, bypassing the city center, from Pingyao exiting Changzhi to continue north; the other is from along the Zhangzhang River Shuncun water reservoir into Changzhi, through Tunliu, Lu Zhou District, Xiangyuan, Qin'an, exiting Wuxia to continue north. Migratory birds in transit, several thousand dabbling ducks and mandarin ducks in Baofeng Lake and Zhangze Lake overwintering and residing.

It is reported that bird observation volunteers introduced that this spring, migratory birds' migration time in Changzhi is relatively early. On February 18, Baofeng Lake observation personnel observed the first 200-odd swans in Baofeng Lake area residing, and more than 1,000 dabbling ducks were monitored at the center of the lake, foraging and grooming feathers, at a distance of less than 100 meters, and more than 100 Ruddy Ducks were also monitored, as well as several thousand common shovellers, gray ducks, khaki shovellers, and ordinary shovellers.
