Rare! National First and Second-Level Protected Animals Feed Together
On March 15th, observation personnel recorded a scene in the Zi Yun Peak National Nature Reserve of Mingxi County, Fujian Province, where 4 national first-class protected animals, the white-necked long-tailed pheasant, and 1 secondary-level protected animal, the white-necked gull fledgling, were feeding together.
The Mingxi County Wild Plant and Animal Protection Management Station expert told reporters that the scene of two different precious birds feeding together is very rare.

It is understood that the white-necked long-tailed pheasant is a Chinese native bird and has been listed in the ‘Catalogue of Key Wild Animals to Be Protected in China’, which is a national first-class protected animal. It is mainly distributed in Jiangxi, Anhui south, Zhejiang west, Fujian north, Hunan, Guizhou east and Guangdong north of the Yangtze River south of China’s mountains. The white-necked gull is mainly distributed in Guizhou, Yunnan, Sichuan, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hainan and other places in China, which is a secondary-level protected animal.

Fujian Mingxi County’s forest coverage rate reaches 81.97%, and the ecological environment is good. The county has recorded 300 species of birds, accounting for 60% of Fujian Province. The national first-class protected birds include the yellow-throated hornbill, white-necked long-tailed pheasant, oriental egret, and black-eyed pine duck. The secondary-level protected birds include the white-necked gull, mandarin duck, and others, totaling 34 species. Good ecological environment has built a ‘bird’s paradise’, and the local area attracts more than 20 countries of bird watchers to visit for fame every year, and has become one of the most important birding bases in China.
