Gray herons, also known as gray herons, have long heads, necks, feet and beaks, with their bodies in shades of gray, and most notably, they have black vertical markings on their necks, resembling a necklace. They mainly forage for fish and shrimp in shallow waters and swamps, and are classified as a national secondary protected animal, listed in the ‘Red List’ of the ‘World Wildlife Fund’.
The reporter saw at the Hao Hanpo section in Pinglu County that branches of trees on cliffs were dotted with nests of varying sizes, and gray herons were nesting in some nests, flying in the air, foraging in the water, and playing on the cliffs, creating a harmonious natural scene.

It is understood that this area in the Hao Hanpo section of Pinglu County has a mild climate and abundant food, making it a key protection and monitoring area for gray herons, with an area of over 20 hectares. Gray herons usually arrive here to nest and breed in March and April. In recent years, with the continuous improvement of the local ecological environment, more and more gray herons have come to nest and breed here.
