‘Ice and Fire’ in Australia Leads to Deadly Spider Emergence: Spiders Able to Survive Underwater

Recently, the humid weather in Australia has created a perfect survival environment for a deadly spider, and Australians have been warned to be careful of the risks posed by funnel-web spiders.

According to News Corp Australia, Australian reptile parks have issued warnings to the public that humid and hot weather has provided an ideal environment for spiders, and the number of spiders has increased in recent days.

A mother from Newcastle discovered this venomous arachnid in her swimming pool, which can survive underwater for 24 hours.

Newcastle Bug Stop says that people should check their swimming pools and filter them daily before children enter, because a bite from this spider could cause death within 10 minutes.

The Australian Reptile Park is asking people to bring collected spiders to the park to contribute to the livesaving antivenom program.

The program, which has been running since the early 1980s, has saved countless Australians' lives.

Since the program was implemented, there has never been a fatal incident.

Reptile and spider handler Jake Meney says that the public needs to be vigilant, alert and safe when handling funnel-web spiders.

'The weekend rain brought a humid environment, which allowed funnel-web spiders to thrive,' he said. 'It is important for Australians to know the correct first aid methods and how to safely capture the spiders.'

'If you are an adult and feel safe, use a large glass jar to catch the funnel-web, don't grab the spider with your hands, use a long stick to guide the spider into the jar, and then take it to the Australian Reptile Park.'

'Funnel-web spiders cannot climb glass or plastic, so once you close the lid, the funnel-web spider cannot get out,' he said. 'You can help us save Australian lives.'

Sydney funnel-web spiders like to make their homes in shady places, which are always cold and damp.

Sydney funnel-web spiders often appear in laundry rooms, garages or shoes.

If a citizen is bitten by a funnel-web spider, you must remain as calm as possible and take the correct first aid measures, that is to use a pressure bandage and get to the hospital as soon as possible.
