A Young Lion ‘Kidnapped’ by Baboon in South Africa, Fate Unknown

In the human world, child abductions occur frequently, but you may have heard of animals kidnapping other young animals. Recently, a baboon “kidnapped” a cub lion in Kruger National Park, South Africa, which is astonishing.

Last weekend, Kurt, a manager, and some tourists were visiting the park when they suddenly discovered a robust adult male baboon holding a fluffy young animal in a tree. Upon closer inspection, the fluffy young animal was not a baboon cub, but a little lion!

Why did this little lion end up in the baboon’s arms? Although everyone present didn’t see what happened beforehand, Kurt speculated that the male baboon must have snatched the little lion while the lion pride was not paying attention.

Why did this baboon kidnap a little lion? This baboon’s next action is even more unbelievable to those present. We see it bringing the little lion to a tree branch and then meticulously combing the lion’s fur just like it combs the fur of baboon cubs. The little lion is frightened and has no way to resist, only letting the baboon control it.

Soon, other baboons discovered the male baboon and the little lion on the tree, and they shouted excitedly, appearing very active. Seeing the other baboons discovering him, the male baboon climbed from the original tree to another tree, and then to another tree… The tender little lion couldn’t stand such rough tossing. It kept calling out in pain and distress, which is very pitiful.

Kurt and other visitors did not see any obvious injuries on the little lion, but they cannot deny that the little lion suffered internal injuries. This is not the most worrying thing, the most concerning thing is that the little lion is only about 1 month old and relies on its mother’s milk to survive. Being hijacked by baboons, it will soon starve to death.

Over the next few days, Kurt and other park staff continued to search for the little lion. However, unfortunately, they saw this group of baboons in the same area but did not find any trace of the little lion. So, whether the little lion was rescued by the lion pride or died and was abandoned by the baboons is still a mystery.

Big Cat Comes to Suggest that the little lion is probably dead. After all, baboons are very good at climbing and have excellent mobility, so even if a lion pride comes to surround them, they may not be able to touch them with a single hair, so the lion pride is unlikely to rescue the little lion. Without food, the little lion will soon become dehydrated. In addition, the little lion was trapped high in the tree, and if it becomes weak or panicked, it may also fall and die.

Park staff said that nature is cruel, and as personnel responsible for maintaining nature, they cannot intervene in the events between wild animals, even if some solutions are uncomfortable for humans.
