5 Amazon Rainforest ‘Super Creatures’, Each One Unstoppable
Black Caiman

If you have the opportunity to go to the banks of the Amazon River, there are many creatures you need to beware of. But one of the largest is the Black Caiman, they are the largest crocodiles in the region, also the largest carnivorous animals in the area, with an average length of about 4 meters. They are usually found in shallow water areas in the Amazon Basin. Their name is due to their naturally unique dark skin, which provides two benefits, one is to help them avoid being discovered during nocturnal hunting, and the other is to absorb more heat during the day. They mainly feed on fish, such as catfish, but they will also prey on large animals such as turtles and hippos. This species was declared as critically endangered in the 1970s due to widespread hunting. The rapid decline in numbers has had a significant impact on the ecosystem, leading to the flourishing of their prey. Recent data shows that the black caiman is starting to re-play its role as the top predator in the food chain of the Amazon.
Theraphosa blondi (Giant Huntsman Spider)

If you are in the Amazon rainforest, you will hear the ticking sounds in the bushes, you may be close to the largest spider ever, that is the Huntsman Spider. They can reach 30cm in width, its belly can be the size of an adult’s fist, and its weight can be up to half a jin. When they walk across the forest floor, the sound is made by their strong legs walking. When they feel danger, they start to use their legs to rub their bellies, which will release a cloud of fine hairs, with spikes, if these hairs are inhaled or enter your eyes, it will cause very painful reaction. If that is not enough, they also have fangs that can inject venom up to 4 centimeters long, which is an ideal weapon for piercing the prey’s skin. Fortunately, a bite from the Huntsman Spider is not enough to kill a person, but it will definitely be a painful experience. More surprisingly, they are not really hunting birds, but they are searching for fallen leaves on the ground and opportunistically preying on anything they encounter. They usually prey on frogs and insects. If they encounter small mammals, they will boldly go forward.
Green Anaconda

The Amazon rainforest is also home to some of the largest snakes in the world. The Green Anaconda is a member of the python family. They have an average length of about 7 meters, weighing up to 250 kilograms, and a diameter of up to 30 centimeters. This size means they are quite slow and clumsy on land, but when they are in the water, their speed is incredible. They can be found in the Amazon River and water sources, hunting their prey. When they prepare to attack a large prey, the prey has little chance of escape once it is bitten. The python wraps its huge body and wraps it around the prey, alive, crushing the prey to death. Their jaws can open very wide, no matter how big the prey is. They eat whatever they want. Once full, they don’t need to eat for several weeks or months, so they can spend time looking for the next prey, and then lie there quietly waiting.
Giant Centipede

The Giant Amazon Centipede is one of the largest species discovered in the world. They can grow to 30cm long, found throughout the Amazon Basin. It is a wise choice to keep your distance from them, they are carnivorous, they are not afraid of any animal bigger than them, using their fangs and venom to attack. They usually prey on large insects, wolf spiders, lizards, frogs, snakes, and birds. They have developed unusual hunting techniques. Their legs are also used to capture prey. It has been recorded that this species has caused at least 5 deaths, one of which is a child.
Giant Peccary

New species are constantly being discovered in the Amazon region. In 2000, a mammal that had never been seen before was discovered. It is similar to a pig, with a length of up to 1.5 meters, and a weight of 400-500 kilograms. It is the largest wild boar, with the same size and size as large dogs. It has been a source of food for indigenous people for a long time, only eating it on Mondays. They are very aggressive, they live in groups, and they attack predators in groups, causing serious injuries with their long and sharp tusks. They can even kill American tigers and humans. People are starting to worry about this huge creature. Because deforestation is threatening their natural habitat, and those working on buildings in the area are likely to consider these animals as a simple food source.
