A cooperation project between the Huangshan Scenic Area Management Committee's Garden and Landscape Bureau and the Nanjing Environment Science Institute of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, in collaboration with Anhui University, has recently made major breakthroughs in the classification research of (qú) genus.

The project team analyzed and confirmed that the (qú) genus species collected from the Fuxi Monkey Valley in the Huangshan Scenic Area are two new mammal species, and they were named 'Anhui Crocidura' (Crociduraanhuiensis) and 'Huangshan Small Crocidura' (Crocidurahuangshanensis).
Researchers said that (qú) is a Eurasian insectivorous animal of the Crociduridae family. This family is distributed in Asia, Europe and Africa, most species are concentrated in tropical and subtropical regions, living in forests, plains, hills and mountains, mainly eating soil insects, also eating some flowers, fruits and seeds of plants. The (qú) resembles a rat, with a body size including three types: large, medium and small.
Researchers believe that the two new species discovered in the Huangshan Scenic Area all belong to medium-sized (qú) species. The discovery of 'Anhui Crocidura' (Crociduraanhuiensis) and 'Huangshan Small Crocidura' (Crocidurahuangshanensis) further enriches the mammalian biodiversity of the Huangshan Scenic Area, especially the class of mammals, and fills the blank in the research of the (qú) genus in the scenic area.
