Czech Photographer Captures Bear Mother Teaching Cubs to Fish: Cubs Give Each Other a 'Handshake'

According to the British Daily Mail on April 3rd, Czech nature photographer Petr Simon captured a touching scene on the shores of Lake Kuyek in the Russian Kamchatka Peninsula: a brown bear mother with two cubs fishing.

From Petr Simon's photo, we can see: the brown bear mother first demonstrated fishing to her children, then one of the cubs tried to fish and soon succeeded. The other cub seemed 'lagging behind' but after several attempts, it finally caught a fish.

Under the photographer's lens, whether it's the cub's excited expression with a fish in its mouth, or the mother's loving gaze watching her cubs, it makes people feel the vitality and beauty of nature. Most surprisingly, the photographer also captured the two cubs happily raising their two paws to each other, giving each other a 'handshake' – it's incredibly cute.

Petr Simon is from the Czech Republic, and as a nature photographer, he has been observing and working in the wild for many years. He told the media: 'Being able to capture this scene of the brown bear mother teaching her cubs to fish, it's possible to record the natural habits of brown bears, which is considered the peak of my career.'

However, after pressing these few shutters, the vigilant bear mother quickly discovered the presence of humans, and she immediately escorted her two cubs away from the lakeside.

Lake Kuyek is located in the Kamchatka Peninsula's caldera, which is Europe's largest Sokchy salmon breeding ground. Salmon is the main food of brown bears, and they usually choose smaller salmon because they contain more protein, which helps them maintain their body temperature and increase their weight, helping them survive in the wild.
