Heartwarming: Did Dahan's Goose Fall Behind? Don't Worry, I'm Here!
Dahan's goose is a migratory bird and a national level secondary protected animal. It has a tall body size and a lifespan of 20-25 years. It has a black beak, with a large area of yellow at the base of the beak extending to the upper side of the beak, forming a point. It lives in open, water-rich areas with abundant aquatic plants, and is one of the highest flying birds in the world, able to fly over the Qomolangma Plateau, with maximum flight altitude reaching above 9000 meters.

“I saw it from far away, I thought it was my own goose running out, when I got closer, it had a wound on its head, so I brought it home.” Li Yaoming pointed to the Dahan's goose and said.
On the afternoon of March 11th, Li Yaoming, a worker at Xinglongmu wetland forest farm, was pruning branches in front of his house. He saw a goose struggling in the forest from afar, thinking it was his own goose that had escaped. As he worried it would be taken away by others as a common goose, he brought it home and immediately reported it to Xinglongmu Forest Public Security Police Station.
After investigation by the police, this wild animal is a national level secondary protected animal, Dahan's goose. Except for a minor scratch on its head, there was no evidence of being hunted with hunting tools. The police took the injured Dahan's goose to a rescue station, where, with the help of veterinarians, the wound was disinfected and treated.
“When you see wild animals, as long as you ensure their safety, you will definitely report it to the Forest Public Security Police Station immediately. This is something we all know.” Li Yaoming told reporters, “In recent years, the public has had a certain ability to distinguish migratory birds and wild animal species that may appear in the forest farm area, and has basically mastered the rescue procedures for wild animals.”
According to reports, Naiman Banner basically has migratory birds in the spring and autumn every year due to collisions and physical exhaustion. Since 2017, the rescue operations involving migratory birds participated in by police and public security officers in Xinglongmu forest farm alone have occurred 5 times.
“Such things happen frequently in our jurisdiction, found by the public, or discovered by police during patrol. Through the public awareness campaigns we have carried out on the protection of wild animals, the public’s awareness of protecting wild animals is constantly improving, effectively guaranteeing the safety of wild animals in the jurisdiction.” Wang Xiaoyu, director of Xinglongmu Forest Public Security Police Station, said.
After several days of treatment, the Dahan's goose with a head injury has basically recovered its health. On March 17th, police officers from Xinglongmu Forest Public Security Police Station released the Dahan's goose to Mengjia Duan National Wetland Park in Naiman Banner.
This Dahan's goose, rescued by police and the public jointly, has returned to nature.
