Panyu Feizhou Fun Park: Rare Peacock Display, Too Beautiful, Spring is Approaching
Peacock, with emerald green on its head, has a blue-green, pointed crest; the upper coverts on its tail are exceptionally long, forming a tail screen that is vivid and beautiful; the actual tail feathers are short, dark brown in color. Female birds do not have a tail screen, with plumage that is dark brown and mottled.
The peacock's opening of its wings is a display performed by male peacocks during courtship. The tail screen is mainly composed of the upper coverts of the tail; these coverts are extremely long, with iridescent rainbow-colored rings at the tips, surrounded by shades of blue and bronze. During courtship displays, male peacocks raise their tail screen under their tails. As the courtship display reaches its climax, the tail feathers vibrate, flicker and shimmer, and emit a series of rustling sounds.
