Over 3,000 Swans Visit Baotou's Nanhai Wetland

A large group of swans were resting and foraging on the river, creating a beautiful and harmonious natural landscape.


At 11:38 AM on February 23rd, the reporter of Northern Times - Northern Net, along with the Northern Times, came to the 337th kilometer of the National Yellow River Wetland Park Nanhai Wetland Protection Area and saw more than 3,000 beautiful swans playing and flying in the protection area.
According to Chen Xugu, director of the Nanhai Wetland Bird Rescue Center, Nanhai wetland is an important channel and station for migratory birds such as swans, seagulls, and herons. On January 3rd, the first batch of more than 1,000 large swans arrived at the wetland. On the 22nd, two populations of large swans and small swans arrived with more than 2,000 individuals. Currently, there are more than 3,000 swans residing and foraging in the Nanhai Wetland Protection Area of the National Yellow River Wetland Park. Chen Xugu told reporters that a swan can fly more than 500 kilometers, and when they come to Nanhai wetland, they first take a bath, eat something, and then lie on the ice for a whole day, and then become active.
Chen Xugu said that there are three to four hundred thousand swans passing through Baotou every year. The migratory birds begin in mid-February, mainly including large swans, small swans, black-crowned night heron, white heron, wild goose, duck and other 10 species, the migratory birds stay in Nanhai wetland for about half a month, and end in early April.
During the important migratory stage of the migratory birds, the Baotou Nanhai wetland enforcement team will patrol 24 hours a day, and distribute promotional materials to tourists, raising public awareness of the responsibility to protect the safety of birds. They protect the ecological environment and rare birds and their habitats through measures such as setting warning signs and stakes, creating a comfortable and safe living environment for birds and wild animals.
It is reported that the Baotou Nanhai scenic area is one of the largest inland lake scenic areas in China, adjacent to the Yellow River, with an area of 2992 hectares, of which 333 hectares are water area, and 1.5 million acres of wetland grassland, where 200 species of wild plants and animals thrive. Baotou City, in order to improve Nanhai wetland, in addition to leveling the bird island, piling sand, to provide a place for the migration of birds, but also established a rescue station, bird observation tower and other in the wetland protection area around the clock patrol.
