Good Ecology Attracts Migratory Birds 'Date' at Fenying Wetland Park

At this time of year, as a migratory haven, Fenyang Daban Town’s Hailitu Wetland Park will successively welcome a batch of special and beautiful guests – migratory birds. On March 16th, reporters learned that in recent days, Hailitu Wetland Park has welcomed nearly 1,000 white-necked cranes and tens of thousands of geese ‘gathering and resting’, forming a brilliant landscape.

Although the weather is gradually warming up, standing by the lakeside of Hailitu Wetland Park still feels a slight chill. Here, it is open, cold, and full of vitality. Sunlight shines on the lake and beaches, creating a golden layer. A gentle breeze blows, and reed patches sway in the wind. In the fresh air, mixed with the damp smell of lake water and the fragrance of soil. On the lake, flocks of migratory birds occasionally lower their bodies to forage leisurely, and sometimes play in the water...

“There will be more birds here in a few days! They gather in flocks, especially beautiful!” A local villager who comes to the wetland park every day to feed the birds described. According to him, in several small ponds in the wetland park, flocks of white-necked cranes are gathered, some resting on the ground, some soaring in the sky, and some walking back and forth to search for food... These white-necked cranes are very vigilant, and when anyone approaches, they flap their wings and fly high.

“The Hailitu National Wetland Park, located in Fenyang Daban Town, is a characteristic wetland of the Ordos Plateau, with typical features of grasslands, swamps, and rivers. The park's ecosystem is intact, with rich biodiversity and ecological functions. There are 286 wild animals in the park, including 167 bird species. Every spring, a large number of white-necked cranes, geese, swans, and khaki ducks ‘refuel’ here before continuing their northward migration.

Migratory birds constantly ‘rest’ here, also enhancing the ecological awareness of local villagers. Local photographers in Fenyang said: “When we take pictures, villagers often come to remind us, we welcome photography, but we must not harm the birds.”

According to staff at the Fenyang Forestry and Grassland Bureau, with the increasing intensity of ecological protection measures such as bunding and grazing ban, the Hailitu wetland ecosystem is becoming increasingly perfect. A large number of migratory birds will stay here from early March to mid-April. The ecological environment continues to improve, and with the increasing public awareness of protection, more and more migratory birds are returning, staying longer, and arriving earlier.
