Chongqing’s Free Services: From Hotpot with Pickles to Self-Service Rice, Chongqing Locals are So Thoughtful

Once, I had repeatedly recommended Chongqing to netizens. For young people, Chongqing is indeed a tourist paradise. Why did I say that?

The influence of hometown is only a small part, more importantly, Chongqing's (price-performance ratio) is really too high!

We all know that the most expensive part of a trip is accommodation and transportation.

In terms of accommodation, Chongqing's hostel industry has developed quite well. In the Liberation Monument central area, a room with a view of the city at night might only cost less than 200 yuan.

Chongqing's metro is even more so. It's not just the main transportation for locals, but also a tourist attraction. Tourists can truly experience the magical terrain of the mountain city while riding the train.

Therefore, traveling to Chongqing is much cheaper than going to other cities, allowing students and young people just starting their careers to afford it.

My Beijing friend, Da Bing, was persuaded by my temptation and finally came to Chongqing to have a good time. So I took Da Bing on a three-day foodie trip.

Of course, when coming to Chongqing, we couldn't miss hotpot. We headed straight to a hotpot restaurant for our first meal. We ordered an 88 yuan meal for three people online, 5 meat dishes and 3 vegetarian dishes, plus a pot of sour plum soup.

Da Bing felt it wasn't enough and wanted to order more dishes. I kept telling him, 'It's enough, it's just enough for two of you, you'll waste food if you order more!'

Da Bing still didn't believe it and ordered a few more dishes.

It wasn't long before the broth boiled, and the dishes were laid out on the table. Da Bing took out his phone to take pictures for a few minutes and posted it on WeChat: 'I finally ate authentic Chongqing hotpot!'

We finally started eating. It took less than 30 minutes before 'Da Bing is full and uncomfortable' complained that it was spicy, oily, and hot. While I was still eating steadily, savoring my duck intestines.

To make up for it because he was my good friend, I told him to order a portion of kimchi. He looked for the menu for a long time but didn't find 'kimchi' written on it, and then asked me, 'There's no kimchi here!'

It seems he doesn't understand the Chongqing hotpot rules. So I raised my head and shouted, ' (j j - a term for a service staff), give me kimchi!' 'Okay!' and it was solved.

Da Bing was puzzled: 'There's no kimchi on the menu, do you mean a small portion or a large portion? How much does it cost?'

I smiled at him: 'It's free, every hotpot restaurant in Chongqing has kimchi.'

Finally, we spent 120 yuan, and we still didn't finish eating. Da Bing had never eaten so cheap hotpot before, and he told me, 'In Beijing, the per capita consumption is not less than 120 yuan.'

Later, I took him to a bean curd rice shop.

The 15-yuan meal included a bowl of bean curd, a bowl of white porridge, a dish of side dishes, and rice, which was self-service, offering both dry and wet rice, allowing customers to choose according to their preferences.

When eating small noodles, there was also a self-service soybean milk, waiting for the noodles to cook, you could first drink a bowl of soybean milk to warm your body.

After eating small noodles, you could drink a bowl of soybean milk again to wipe away the remaining oil and seasonings.

At the Liberation Monument food street, we also saw such a sign: 'Buy one bun, get a salted vegetable and a soup.'

I don't know if it's just my perception, but I feel that if I buy a bun and add a salted vegetable and soup, I can fill my stomach.

Like this kind of free service is ubiquitous in small restaurants and hotpot restaurants, every hotpot restaurant and noodle shop's kimchi is different in taste.

Even in the same restaurant, the beverages offered at different seasons are different.

If it weren't for Da Bing coming to Chongqing, I, as a local, would not have discovered so many 'hidden treasures', which I took for granted.

For three days, Da Bing spent less than 1000 yuan on food and drinks, saying that Chongqing's price-performance ratio is too high! He wants to come to Chongqing to play with me again, because there are still so many foods he hasn't eaten.

Having been to so many cities, do people think Chongqing has a high price-performance ratio?
