‘Bus-Oriented’ and ‘Tourism-Oriented’ Transformation! Hainan Launches West Ring Railway Reconstruction Project

On March 18th, the opening ceremony for the Sanya to Lecheng section of the West Ring Railway's bus-oriented and tourism-oriented transformation project was held. The project, with an investment exceeding 5.8 billion yuan, relies on the West Ring High-Speed Railway and the renovated West Ring Freight Line to connect multiple core areas of Sanya City with passenger flow hubs in Lecheng County.
The Hainan West Ring Railway bus-oriented and tourism-oriented transformation project is a major infrastructure project undertaken by Sanya City, Hainan Province. The project route is 108.69 kilometers long, with an operational length of 107.354 kilometers. Over 73 kilometers utilize the West Ring High-Speed Railway, and approximately 23 kilometers utilize the West Ring Freight Line. The design operating speeds are 200km/h and 160km/h (existing railway standard), using CHR6F, CHR1, and DF4 types of locomotives. The total construction period is 2 years.
Specifically, the route is divided into two sections: starting from Lecheng County's Lingtou Village to the east along the existing West Ring High-Speed Railway, passing through Le Dong's Furong Town, Huangliu Town, Liguo Town, and Jiu Suo Town, before entering Sanya City's Ya Zhou District; after reaching Ya Zhou Station, it switches to the West Ring Freight Line to continue east through Tian Ya District to Phoenix Airport Station, and then utilizes the West Ring High-Speed Railway's Fengshan Section to run east, finally connecting to Sanya Railway Station.
A total of 14 stations are distributed along the route, including six newly built stations: Lingtou, Liguo, Longqiwei Dong, Chenhai, Sanya Science and Technology City, and Hongtangwan; five stations are renovated: Ya Zhou, Nan Shan Bei, Tian Ya Hai Jiao, Phoenix Airport, and Sanya; and three existing stations on the West Ring High-Speed Railway are utilized: Lingtou, Huangliu, and Le Dong.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Chen Xiangqian, Deputy General Manager of China Railway Guangzhou Bureau Group Co., Ltd. and Chairman of Hainan Railway Co., Ltd., introduced that the project's minimum operating interval for trains is 5 minutes, adopting a 'mixed-run mode of large-scale high-speed city-to-city trains directly to stations plus city-area trains stop-and-go' using trains operating at a speed of 160 kilometers or above. 'Upon completion of operation, it will greatly facilitate the travel of citizens and tourists.'
Sanya Mayor Du Dong stated that the project is of great significance for promoting Hainan's construction as an international tourism consumption center, promoting the integrated development of the 'Greater Sanya Tourism Economic Circle', and particularly strengthening the connections and services between Sanya and Lecheng County for the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port.
