Jiansan City belongs to Tonghua City, Jilin Province, located in the southeast of Jilin Province, facing the Democratic People's Republic of Korea across the Yalu River, with a border line of 203.5 kilometers, one of China's three major ports to North Korea; southwest borders with Liaoning Province, and north borders with Tonghua City.

Known as 'Northeast Little Jiangnan'. The area is 3354.90 square kilometers (2002), with a total population of 218623 people (2013). In 2013, Jiansan City achieved a gross production value of 91.7 billion yuan. Jiansan City has famous attractions such as the Five Women Peaks National Forest Park, the Yalu River Scenic Area, the Yunfeng Lake Tourist Resort Area, and the Haotaiwang Stele.

In 2017, Jiansan City was named a National Wellness City. In December 2018, it was awarded on the list of the second batch of National Ecological Civilization Construction Demonstration Counties, and was awarded the National Climate Mark of the Climate Ecology category. Third batch 'Green Mountains and Green Waters Are Gold and Silver' Pilot Innovation Base. On December 31, 2019, it was selected as a National Rural Innovation and Entrepreneurship Model County.
