China’s Most ‘Low-Key’ County Builds World’s Tallest Buddha Statue, Becoming a Popular Tourist Attraction

LuShan County was originally a very poor small county seat. This giant Buddha is called Zhongyuan Buddha, designed and crafted personally by National Intangible Cultural Heritage skills inheritor Lin Shengbiao. The entire Buddha is 208 meters high, divided into four parts: the lotus seat, the vajra seat, the Shrivatsa seat, and the body, each standing 20 meters, 25 meters, 55 meters, and 108 meters respectively. The Buddha is all gold, looking particularly magnificent and imposing, conveying the grandeur of the Buddha.

According to reports, the entire Buddha statue used extremely expensive materials, with 108 jin (approximately 108 kilograms) of gold, 3300 jin (approximately 3300 kilograms) of copper, and 15000 tons of special steel. The construction cost reached 120 million. Seeing such data, LuShan County really invested heavily. At the time of the Buddha's construction, 108 eminent monks gathered at the base to consecrate it, praying for national well-being and prosperity, and favorable weather. This world-renowned Buddha statue has become increasingly prominent. Consequently, many people have come to worship Zhongyuan Buddha, hoping for good luck and safety, and many foreigners travel thousands of miles to see the magnificence of Zhongyuan Buddha.
