Self-Driving Special – Sichuan-Tibet North Line
The Sichuan-Tibet Line is actually very beautiful, just less famous than the 318 National Highway. Here's a suggested itinerary for your reference:
Route arrangement:
1. Nationwide – Chengdu (elevation 520M)
2. Chengdu – Yingxi – Balangshan – Danba, (320KM mileage, elevation 1860M)
3. Danba – Deqen – Seda, (380KM mileage, elevation 3800M)
4. Seda – Wuming Buddhist Academy – Sky Burial – Ganzi, (150KM mileage, elevation 3390M)
5. Ganzi – Aba Monastery – Dege, (330KM mileage, elevation 3250M)
6. Dege – Qia Er Mountain – Changdu, (320KM mileage, elevation 3250M)
7. Changdu – Banda – Ba Shui – Ranwu Lake – Bomi, (480KM mileage, elevation 2700M)
8. Bomi – Lulang – Qizhilasa Mountain – Linzhi, (200KM mileage, elevation 2900M)
9. Linzhi – Kongbu Jiangda – Mituo – Lhasa, (390KM mileage, elevation 3650M)
Overall, I think this is a pretty good route for entering Tibet. Please note that this is just a suggestion, and if you don't have experience driving in Tibet, please make sure you've prepared thoroughly beforehand. The journey is long, the road conditions are complex, and the weather is changeable. High altitude is a major obstacle for driving in Tibet.
