A Life's Travelogue: Tangshi Ancient Town
Today is the second day of Qingming holiday, and I decided to visit Tangshi Ancient Town. The only reason I chose to come here is because the name is beautiful. Tangshi Plus the two words 'ancient town', just saying it out loud feels wonderful! White walls and black tiles, small bridges and flowing water, willows swaying gently, inspiring endless thoughts within me. We set off at 10 am and didn't arrive at the destination until 11:30 am.
As a new resident of Hangzhou, I'm not very familiar with Hangzhou's attractions, and I didn't do any research beforehand. I brought a lot of food and drinks with me before leaving, and I was stunned when I arrived. There were countless snack streets, dazzling and overwhelming.
Upon entering the main entrance of the scenic area, red lanterns were hung on both sides of the street,
Adding a lively and festive atmosphere.
We walked along Lantern Street and eventually arrived at Tangshi Ancient Town's landmark building, Guangji Bridge! This bridge is one of the few remaining seven-hole stone arch bridges on the Grand Canal,
The stone steps on the bridge were bustling with people, and the ancient feeling was very profound! I captured a Grand Canal perspective on Guangji Bridge,
The sides of the bridge were as I had imagined – small bridges, flowing water, and continuous corridors. Bustling marketplaces and vibrant crowds. There were platforms and steps that extended over the canal, allowing us to stop and admire the scenery with our hands. The water glistened and sparkled, creating a beautiful spectacle!
After leaving Guangji Bridge, we continued along the canal and arrived at the Qianlong Emperor's Inscription. In the 16th year of Qianlong's reign (1751), Emperor Qianlong toured Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui provinces to check the payment of imperial grain. He found that Jiangsu and Anhui provinces owed a huge amount, while Zhejiang province was not owed any money. To reward Zhejiang province, the emperor wrote a decree and engraved it on stone, instructing the officials and people.
Behind the Qianlong Emperor's Inscription was a peaceful spot amidst the hustle and bustle. We followed a winding path and eventually arrived at the Tangshi Ancient Town Canal Warehouse Museum, which surprised me!,
Because I hadn't researched beforehand, I didn't even know there was a museum to visit, and this museum was built underground. When we arrived at the entrance, the area was small and unremarkable. Seeing so many people queuing up, I was curious and followed them inside.
The museum detailed the origins of agriculture, the birth of civilization, the rise of cities, and the interplay between human war and peace. It explained the important role of the warehouse in human survival and progress.
It was worth the trip! I gained a lot!
