Tianmu Mountain Homestay Renovation Design
Site Overview: This project is located in the picturesque Tianmu Mountain Nimi Big Village, the homestay is built on the mountain, surrounded by green and misty, the building consists of a 2-story old wooden structure tile house and a 2-story adobe structure new building. The design aims to create a comprehensive homestay resort space integrating meeting, living, dining, and leisure.

Before renovation appearance
There are three main terrain characteristics in the site, firstly the coexistence of old and new buildings and textures, the old wooden structure, adobe walls, black tiles, the new steel-reinforced concrete, glass, and roof gardens, one new and one old, together formed a rich and unique spatial experience; secondly, the exposed cliffs, the new site excavation exposed cliff rocks, highlighting the internal space, the cliff ridges added a touch of natural wildness.

Old and New Buildings Coexist

Exposed Cliff Rocks
Regarding the old wooden structure building, considering its uniqueness, the renovation is based on preserving and respecting its original appearance and structure, retaining and repairing the original adobe walls, optimizing the door and window openings to improve indoor lighting and permeability, and increase living quality. Structurally, the first floor uses steel structure reinforcement to meet the load requirements increased by the new living space. For the new building, fully preserve the site characteristics, highlight its natural wildness, increase the glass area, strengthen the visual landscape. The interior design should highlight the traditional rural and interesting characteristics, while also meeting the comfort of modern living. The overall space material is mainly traditional adobe mud walls, light-colored artistic paint, gray slate, and wood color, creating a simple, comfortable, and rustic living environment.

After renovation appearance

Based on the needs of the owner, the internal space is re-planned, the original interior walls are demolished, the guest rooms are divided into two sides, and the entrance reception, waiting, and resting function is centrally arranged. The placed black steel structure, white staircase, wood color bookshelves, bamboo grille, and other materials and shapes, while emphasizing the contrast between old and new, also seek balance and integration.

We will place various public spaces such as the restaurant, water bar, book bar, meeting, and leisure on the first floor of the new building, which not only meets the functional flow and the living needs of guests, but also fully utilizes and presents its exposed cliff rock landscape, creating a natural, wild, and interesting public space. We also hope to provide guests with a comfortable living experience, and also provide a more comprehensive and interesting life experience.

The bookshelf wall enhances the quiet and elegant atmosphere

According to the needs of the owner, we designed nine guest rooms with different layouts, five in the old building area and four in the new building area. The design principle of the old building guest rooms is to take the original basic structure, adobe wall texture as the premise, increase the window size, improve lighting, and increase comfort, optimize the indoor living environment, and create a traditional living atmosphere.

The design of the new building emphasizes introducing the external natural environment into the interior, on the one hand fully utilizes the existing conditions, digs out and highlights the characteristic of the site's cliff rock landscape and wildness, on the other hand through increasing the glass area, strengthening the visual landscape, introducing the external natural scenery into the interior, obtaining a natural, comfortable, and wild living experience.
