Nanchong, Sichuan: Historic Architectural Group, Superior Location, a Shame to Neglect
Jiling District's Tubo Temple Town is located at the junction of Nanchong City's Jiling District, Sichuan County, and Pengxi County. Previously, it was a relatively remote area in the west of Jiling District. Now, after the SuiXi Chong High-speed Highway has opened, it has greatly improved the town's traffic conditions.
Tubo Temple Town got its name because of the Seven-Buddha Temple located on Zunjushan (Dragon Tooth Mountain) beside Changzhen. The terrain here is unique and beautiful, with the Longtan River winding around the town. Seven-Buddha Temple has a long history and rich culture. NanShuyuan (NanBook Academy) nurtured many talented people, and it is also the cradle of revolution in the western part of Nanchong.

The Seven-Buddha Temple on Zunjushan was rebuilt in the 13th year of the Zhengde reign of the Ming Dynasty (1518).It adopts a traditional balanced symmetrical layout with a vertical axis. The entire Zunjushan Mountain is surrounded by the Longtan River on three sides, and the Seven-Buddha Temple is built facing north and south. It consists of a gate, the front hall, the main hall, the Wenchang Tower, the Qu Xing Tower, NanShuyuan, and the corridor. It rises and falls with the mountain's contours, forming a four-courtyard style hall, with an area of about 3000 square meters.
In the 2017 'Walk Across Nanchong' episode focusing on Jiling's Seven-Buddha Temple, there was a dedicated recording of this place. Often passing by Seven-Buddha Temple, one always marvels at the town's superior geographical environment and its rich historical and cultural heritage. The forest on Zunjushan is dense, the river outside the town is clear, and the ancient book academy is a great place to study, giving one a sense of transcendence.

Recently, we visited Seven-Buddha Temple again. Previously, we could enter from the school located at the current Seven-Buddha Temple; now it has been walled off, separated by the teachers' dormitory. Seven-Buddha Temple is now closed and protected. To enter now, you must enter from the bridgehead near Yishengtou. After asking around, we contacted Secretary He of the Seven-Buddha Temple Community, who opened the door and led us to visit the ancient architectural complex.

Over the past few years, Seven-Buddha Temple has always been neglected there. It is not easy to preserve such a large-scale ancient building. Its current state is regrettable. Seeing the former dormitory, cafeteria, and classrooms, it is like returning to those unforgettable times. The school where the sound of books was once so lively is now so desolate. Time and tide wait for no man. Despite being in any place, this place is always a difficult place for many hometown people to forget.
We hope that Seven-Buddha Temple and NanShuyuan can be well protected and developed to benefit more hometown people. Friends, after seeing our hometown like this, what are your feelings?
