25-Day Thailand Adventure: Family Road Trip from Fuzhou (Episode 21)

Day Twenty-One: Su Kutha to Chiang Mai (Warorot Market, Chiang Mai University, 1000-Person Hot Pot

  • A ‘Tom Yum Goong’ movie brought a small city to fame, that city is Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai is the second largest city in Thailand, with a level of development second only to Bangkok, but the prices are much lower than those in Bangkok. Chiang Mai is also a place where Thai beauties abound, and most of the past Thai Misses came from Chiang Mai. Here is also the capital of the Lan Na Dynasty in Thai history, and it is also the most loved vacation spot for Deng Li Jun. Chiang Mai’s Empire of Beauty Hotel is where this legendary singer passed away. Chiang Mai is located in northern Thailand, and it takes about ten hours to drive from Bangkok, passing through the Guangmo Forest.

Early in the morning, we left the motel, not far from Chiang Mai city, first went to 7-11 for breakfast, drove slowly to Chiang Mai. As soon as we arrived, we went to ‘Warorot Market’ (also known as Kad Luang), to buy souvenirs, and then we could enjoy our time in Chiang Mai.

Warorot Market is a large place selling Thai specialties, with many stalls, you can basically buy anything you want (various dried fruits, teas, small boss seaweed, squid silk, green grass ointment, etc.). We compared the prices, except for small boss seaweed, the prices were about 1/3 cheaper than shops or department stores, so we came back twice in two days.

After visiting the indoor market, you can walk around the outside of Warorot Market and discover a flower market (as a flower city, it's really fragrant and beautiful), a lot of dazzling Thai fruits (the price is so cheap it’s scary), and cosmetics stores (the prices are much cheaper than airport duty-free shops). After 6:00 PM, this place turns into a night market, which is very lively. We bought everything in Warorot Market for about 1100 RMB, which is a lot of things.

There are many sections in the market, this is the dried fruit section.

This is the boss lady, she can speak some Chinese.

This uncle’s coffee and tea are great, and they are the best we’ve drunk in Thailand, located at the entrance of a channel in Warorot Market, 30 baht, so cheap it’s unbelievable. By the way, there are several gold shops on the side of the stall.

Bought sticky rice and chicken fried rice and ate it in Warorot Market.

Everything is bought, and it’s getting late, so we want to check in to the hotel, on the way we passed through ‘Tha Pe Men’ and took the wife to feed pigeons. There are many pigeons, not afraid of people, when someone feeds them, they fly over in a swarm, which scared us.

Arrived at the hotel smoothly, after putting the things bought in the hotel, we drove to Chiang Mai University, which is not far from our hotel. We arrived at Chiang Mai University at about 5:45 PM, we can drive the car into the university, but we can’t drive the car ourselves, we have to park the car in the parking lot and take the sightseeing bus, 60 baht per trip every 30 minutes, which is not expensive, we took a total of about 30 minutes.

We took the bus to Chiang Mai University (Chiang Mai University, CMU), CMU Coffee is very famous, and the staff are all college students, many people buy it, but it’s not as good as the one in Warorot Market made by that uncle.

In love

After leaving Chiang Mai University, we parked the car back at the hotel and walked to the 1000-Person Hot Pot, the current 1000-Person Hot Pot is very bad, there is nothing to eat, just for the crowd, son thinks it’s delicious because there is a lot of meat.

A famous ‘1000-Person Hot Pot’, don’t have too much expectation, just for the crowd is worth going.
