Critically Endangered White-necked Crane Visits Menglian
Grey crowned-crane is a migratory bird, originally from India, Sri Lanka and other places, it is listed as a low-risk species in the 2013 IUCN Red List. It is a national Class II protected animal. It mainly feeds on shellfish, crabs, shrimp, fish and frogs, and likes to hunt in wetlands, shallow water, fish ponds and rice fields.

Recently, forty or fifty grey crowned-cranes were temporarily 'settled' in the water group of Menglian County, Nayan Town, Qikang Village, Root-Growing Group, enjoying the spring sunshine on the ridges, flapping their wings to admire the mountain and countryside scenery, and foraging for food in the water fields...
