The World's Longest Living Organisms – Hunting Methods You Won't Believe
Eating is a necessary behavior for all living things to maintain life, plants provide their own nutrients through photosynthesis, and animals supplement energy through herbivory or carnivory. However, the environments where organisms in the biosphere exist are not like humans, who can obtain food safely and quickly at any time, and often must obtain prey through fierce hunting behavior. Some organisms have evolved rare and formidable hunting methods to increase their hunting success rate. Today, I will introduce a rare hunting organism—Nile worm

The Nile worm is a type of worm, a more primitive organism, but they are also the longest organisms on Earth. Humans have discovered Nile worms with a length of about 55 meters. According to incomplete statistics, there are currently 1200 known species of Nile worms, most of which live on the seabed and have super regeneration ability, even if they are cut into 100 pieces, they can still regenerate. The wonder of this organism is not just this, but their unique hunting methods are frightening to many people.
They use two common attack patterns, one is to release toxic slime, Nile worms can release a strong neurotoxin from their bodies, which can not only attack enemies but also serve as a good defense. When they release slime, it will produce a slight irritating odor, which smells like metal or sewage. Scientists' research shows that this toxic slime can kill crabs and cockroaches, but it does not harm humans or mammals. Currently, this toxin has been used to develop new insecticides with powerful killing effects on crustaceans and cockroaches.

The second attack method is the most frightening, Nile worms can spit out eerie white objects to attack prey, this eerie white object is actually a special organ of the Nile worm—the buccal cavity, which is a special muscle structure. When they find prey or threat, they will spit out this organ, and this special organ will also branch into many fine nets at the end, which looks very eerie. The white organ buccal cavity is sticky and can fix and immobilize prey. Some species of Nile worms buccal cavity even has toxin, can kill prey while fixing, to facilitate the Nile worm's predation.
