Meili Guancun: A Famous Beautiful Portal and Landmark Building in Sanya
Old Yu's parents worked in education for a lifetime and, after retiring many years ago, lived a winter in Hainan and a summer in Northeast China like migratory birds. Because Old Yu's work at the unit was quite special, he was more strictly managed during Chinese New Year and holidays than usual. Although Old Yu's parents had lived in Sanya for many years, it was their first time visiting Sanya to spend the Chinese New Year in 2011.
Before going to Sanya, Old Yu's mother had mentioned many times that there was a beautiful place called Meili Guancun, which was very beautiful and worth visiting.
According to reports, Meili Guancun Exhibition Center, created by Guowei Wealth Group in 2003, was specifically built for the 53rd World Finals held in Sanya on December 6, 2003. It consists of two functional areas: exhibition performances and the Beautiful Museum, with an investment of 122 million yuan.
Meili Guancun resembles a giant flower crown, with the meaning of ‘flourishing and admired like a cluster of flowers, surrounded by admiring stars.’ ‘The interior adopts a European classical aesthetic decoration style, which is opulent and dazzling.’
Oscar golden bronze statue replicas stand on both sides of the staircase, all exuding a luxurious style.
Meili Guancun successfully hosted 6 World Finals and is regarded as the birthplace of World by the world. On December 1, 2007, Chinese Miss Zhang ZiLin won the championship of the 57th World Finals here.
Later, due to the poor management of Meili Guancun, the Sanya Municipal State-Owned Enterprise Publicly Auctioned Meili Guancun Exhibition Center and its surrounding land in December 2007. Sanya Huachuang Meili Guancun Co., Ltd. bought ‘Meili Guancun’ for 458 million yuan.
In the beginning of 2011, Sanya Huachuang Meili Guancun Culture Communication Co., Ltd. invested billions of yuan to launch ‘Meili Guancun Evening Banquet Theater.’ The stage of the renovated theater was even more beautiful and dazzling, making people feel as if they were in a Las Vegas show.
In February 2011, Meili Guancun was adjacent to a large area of coconut groves, artificial rocks and green spaces, presenting a southern country landscape.
In March 2019, Old Yu came to Meili Guancun again after 8 years. It turned out that the Oscar golden bronze figures on both sides of the staircase had disappeared, and the large area of coconut groves had been converted into a parking lot. That year, Meili Guancun was ‘yellowed.’ Old Yu asked the reason, and the answer was, ‘There have been no events held for a long time.’ There was no related information in the online search of Meili Guancun, perhaps due to the downturn in business, leading local residents to think that it would close down.
Meili Guancun is a famous beautiful portal and landmark building in Sanya. From its former glory to its present decline, only 10 years have passed, which inevitably makes people sigh ‘Flowers don’t bloom forever, good times don’t last forever.’
