The Song ‘Red Sun Shining on the Frontier’ Brought Prosperity to this Border Town
In the 1960s, the song 'Red Sun Shining on the Frontier' spread across the vast lands of the motherland. 'Fruit trees grow in line under Mount Changbai, fragrant rice in the coastal waters of the Hela River…' it sang of the spirit and customs of the Yelan people. The fragrant rice in the Hela River also became a brilliant signboard of Yelan.
The eye's view is endless rice fields, combined with distant mountains, blue sky and white clouds to create the most beautiful border town – Gaodong Village.
Gaodong Village is located in the Yelan County and Longshi, the middle reaches of the Hela River; it is an important hinterland of the world-class Mount Changbai tourism destination, and one of the nodes on the Yelan to Changbai Mountain golden tourist line. The village has an area of 724.71 hectares, with 6 natural villages and 8 peasant groups, with 301 households and 787 residents, of which 98% are of Korean ethnicity.
When you come to Gaodong Village, the most immediate impression is 'cleanliness'. The streets, squares and various venues are all tidy and organized. Various landscape trees and fruit trees are planted along the roadside, and flowers of various kinds are planted in the flowerbeds between houses, which is particularly refreshing.
Gaodong Village is a typical Korean ethnic village with clustered, well-arranged houses and distinctive walls, creating a beautiful scene everywhere. When you come to Gaodong Village, you can truly feel the 'most brilliant ethnic wind' blowing in the rice fields.
Gaodong Village has set up many guesthouses with independent layouts and reasonable prices. Typical Korean ethnic style, (kang) is a small bed, besides placing shoes in the entrance area, the rest of the space can be considered a kang, using electric underfloor heating for heat, you can set your own preferred temperature.
The entire village is surrounded by endless rice fields, with distant mountains stretching endlessly, lush vegetation, birds singing and flowers blooming, and for a moment, it feels like you are in a paradise world.
Here we can visit the appearance of new rural villages, experience and taste Korean specialties such as spicy cabbage and steamed bread. Speaking of eating, the Koreans' 'requirements' seem to start from the selection of ingredients, preparation and presentation, to dining customs.
