Xidi: A Touch of Color on Ancient Walls - The Last Three Views Were Particularly Tempting
Finally, finally arrived at Xidi!
There were many reasons to go to Xidi: a world cultural heritage, unique Hui-style villages, and close to Huangshan (Yellow Mountain). I had never been to Anhui Province before. The world is really vast, and for someone like me who travels almost every year, I've actually never set foot in ten provinces!
It's been a long time since I've gone hiking, so my target is Yellow Mountain. To avoid feeling waist-aching and leg-tired after coming down from Yellow Mountain, I absolutely had to include Xidi Hongcun.
My Yellow Mountain Xidi Hongcun 'Slow' Travel Diary
The first time I stepped into a Hui-style village, surrounded by the walls and roofs I'd always dreamed of, I was so excited! I kept taking pictures with my phone, photographing everything I saw. The village streets, the decorations of the shops, the grand residences in the village, the paths through the fields… even the villagers washing clothes and vegetables by the stream were all caught in my lens.
In northern China at this time, if it hadn't snowed, there wouldn't have been much color. Past the Yangtze River, you can still see green, although it's not as vibrant anymore. In the bleak winter atmosphere, there are also a few bright red fruits reflecting off the 'aged' white walls, conveying a sense of 'strength' in winter.
The villagers also hung up my favorite food outside. I couldn't even move! Curious about its making, I was captivated by its taste. But I couldn't buy it – my mission is Yellow Mountain, and I couldn't carry a bunch of food with me, it would be too cumbersome. Just enjoying the feast with my eyes was enough.

This plant is very common, but I didn't know its name

My favorite food – cured meats (). Unfortunately, the trip is just beginning, and I can't turn food into a burden. It's fine as it is.
