Zhangjiajie, Hunan: Lesser-Known Attractions, 'Journey to the West' ('Three Beats of the White Bones') Filming Location - Have You Been?

This is Xiao Yu's travel diary, with stops and starts, come and see Hunan with me.

Nowadays, a popular TV series can instantly turn filming locations into hot attractions, attracting tourists. However, if you're looking for the most 'hot' attractions, it's probably 86th version of 'Journey to the West'. Despite many remakes, the old version remains unbeatable and classic, and even today, it can still make people enjoy it.

The reason why 86th version of 'Journey to the West' is a classic is undoubtedly due to many reasons. Back then, the entire production team traveled tens of thousands of kilometers across China, searching for real mountains and waters. Many of the original filming locations have become famous scenic spots. For example, Guizhou Huangguoshu Waterfall and Xinjiang Flaming Mountain. So, do you know where the highlight scene 'Three Beats of the White Bones' was filmed?

The answer is – Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in Hunan. As one of the most famous mountain-type landscapes in China, Zhangjiajie has already been on many travelers' travel lists. Before visiting Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, I was still impressed by its magnificent scenery of thousands of peaks and countless peaks. It seemed like its beauty was only visible from a high altitude.

In fact, as a three-dimensional mountain landscape, Zhangjiajie can be viewed from high altitudes and low altitudes, and various perspectives have formed the beauty of Zhangjiajie. In 'Three Beats of the White Bones', the misty and rugged scene with a strong fairy-like atmosphere was filmed in the 'low-altitude' of Zhangjiajie's Golden Whip Stream.

Golden Whip Stream is a stream in a gorge, with dense forests and towering rocks on both sides, with a quiet environment. Because Zhangjiajie is so big and beautiful, the scenery of Golden Whip Stream is not the most 'prominent'. Many busy travelers will not come here. So many people don't know that it's actually the filming location of 'Three Beats of the White Bones'. When we came, we saw the 'Three Beats of the White Bones' sign, which was quite unexpected.

Visiting Golden Whip Stream mainly has two highlights. The first highlight is to admire the strange peaks and rocks, Zhangjiajie's thousands of peaks are magnificent when viewed from above, while another perspective is to look up at them from below. Beside a flowing Golden Whip Stream, there are towering, jagged rocks. Walking through the gorge, you can feel the wonder of nature, which is fascinating.

The second highlight of Golden Whip Stream is the 'Sun Wukong' you can see everywhere in the gorge. Whether it's on branches, on stones, on trails, or in the river, you can see cute monkeys just a few steps away. The monkeys here are not afraid of people and sometimes sway and walk alongside tourists. The monkeys in Golden Whip Stream are also a unique attraction!

So, have you been to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in Hunan? What are your impressions of Zhangjiajie? Have you visited Golden Whip Stream when you travel to Zhangjiajie? Do you know where 'Three Beats of the White Bones' was filmed? Where do you think Zhangjiajie is most beautiful? Welcome everyone to leave a comment and discuss!
