Among the many tourist attractions, ancient towns are particularly loved by tourists. There is an ancient town in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province, which is the birthplace of writer Mao Dun. It is renowned as one of the Six Great Ancient Towns in Jiangnan and is also known as 'Fish and Rice Town, Silk Capital'. This is Wuzhen, with a history of more than 6,000 years.
Wuzhen is composed of East Gate and West Gate, both of which require tickets. The editor recommends purchasing a combined ticket for a total of 190 yuan, which can be used to visit both places. The East Gate route is about 2 kilometers long, and the most famous attraction here is the birthplace of writer Mao Dun. Mao Dun's birthplace is Jiaxing's only national key historical protection unit, consisting of two two-story wooden buildings. There is also a Mao Dun sculpture in front of the buildings. If you are a fan of Mao Dun, you cannot miss it.
Another place worth visiting is Xiu Zhenguan Ancient Opera Stage. It is a building attached to a Daoist temple. After being renovated a hundred years ago, it has been preserved until today. The opera stage has a unique (xie shan shi -) roof and four eaves with flying corners, which recreate the classical atmosphere of this place. The opera stage has two floors and is divided into front and back sections. The front section is the opera stage facing the square, and the back section is the makeup room. When visiting, you can appreciate the spiritual life of people a hundred years ago.
Wuzhen West Gate consists of twelve small islands connected by sixty-odd small bridges. Zhiming School is a highlight of West Gate. Upon entering the gate, you will see a stone archway with the words 'Six Dynasties' engraved on a stone slab. Behind the archway is a courtyard surrounded by ancient trees, preserving the rustic atmosphere of the school.
On the south bank of West Gate, you can see a giant pot with a diameter of 5 meters, cast by a blacksmith in the Ming Dynasty. The bottom of the pot is inscribed with the words 'No. 1 Pot in the World', but the blacksmith's shop has long been closed, leaving us with this giant pot.
Transportation Guide: Take a bus from Jiaxing Bus Station to Wuzhen.
