People say that because Yunnan is inland and far from the sea, Yunnan people when seeing rippling lakes, would associate it with the sea, thinking the sea is this painting, and therefore name large lake areas 'sea'. Thus, lakes like Erhai, Bita Lake, Yangzong Lake are named 'sea' in Yunnan. However, in Yunnan, there are also lakes called 'lake', and even some called 'pool'. Such as Fuxian Lake, Dianchi Lake.
